Alena Dawson is one of the main characters in Once In a Blue Moon and a minor character in Touch of Magic. She is a witch and vampire, an older sister and cousin to her younger family members. Alena is a natural born leader, growing up watching her parents in their respective leadership roles.
Despite having to balance her dual natures, Alena grew up in a stable environment and a loving home. She was surrounded with as many human elements as possible, causing her to have very mundane hopes and dreams.
After following the family tradition of attending SJBS she moves to Portland to persue her academic goals.
She is a member of the Silverstone matriline through her maternal grandmother, as well as The Silverstone Family. She is also a member of the Greene bloodline and The Greene Family through her maternal grandfather. She is a member of both The Dawsons and The Millers through her father. She is Princess Alena in Divitia and Slivatica.
Life[]
Early Life[]
Alena was conceived a few months before Season Four, in early summer 2014. In late summer, Payton consults Elisabeth's medical advice of the potential continuation of the Silverstone curse, to which Elisabeth runs several tests. The tests point out that Payton's symptoms indicate a pregnancy, and not the abscence of fertility. At the time the pregnancy is revealed, Payton is estimated to be 12 weeks pregnant.
Alena's development as a foetus is an unknown entity, and she is born at 29 weeks as a fully developed newborn. While Payton recovers from the complications during the delivery, Jason bonds with Alena. Later, Alena's parents announce her full name, in homage to her maternal grandmother Lillian and her aunt, Lauren Dawson.
In the beginning of Season Five, Alena is starting to walk despite only being 7 months old. She later acts as a flowergirl during her parents wedding.
Alena's life is bargained by May Miller in Season Six, resulting in Payton being held captive. Claire risks her own life and that of her unborn twins, to ensure Alena's safety.
In Season Seven Alena is seen being homeschooled by her uncle, Seth Dawson as she starts to grasp educational concepts. It is also revealed that Alena's diet is a mixture of animal blood and human food, and that her body is able to survive on either one alone. Payton gifts Alena her first crystal in the form of a bracelet at the end of Season Seven. In the finale it is revealed that Alena will have a sibling.
Childhood[]
In flashbacks it is revealed that Alena was once kidnapped when she was 8 years old, but she used her magic to escape. Further flashbacks show she was trained to use her magic and speed from a very young age to defend herself. Later her father allows for more offense training.
Around the age of 12, her powers go through another grow spurt, and she starts feeling insecure. She overcomes her fears eventually when she realizes they're not tied to her magic or vampirism and are in fact very human feelings of puberty. She clocks the human running record (set by Justin in 2010) at age 14. By Age 15 she is shown writing her own spells and balancing crystals with ease. After graduating high school in 2032, she takes two gap years (2032-2033 and 2033-2034) to emerse herself in magic. As of the 2034-2035 academic year she is enrolled in University in Portland.
Through flashbacks in season one we can see her joining her mother on meetings in Divitia and asking Aylin McKenzie on advice on which major to chose in college.
Growing up, Alena consistently called her younger siblings 'AJ' and 'Amy' respectively. In school she also choses to only include 'Dawson' as her last name, similar to how her mother dropped her paternal last name. Official SJBS records show her full legal surname is Silverstone-Dawson.
It is also shown that Alena lives under the protection of the Millers, as she speaks of hunting in upstate New York which is traditionally Miller territory.
Season One[]
In Season One, Alena is seen returning to Portland after spending time with her family for the winter holidays. She is a sophomore at university studying Literature. She manages to juggle both her genetics relatively well and is living in the dorms.
On her first day back since winter break, a new dorm resident named Owen Richards is announced on her floor. While unpacking, Owen shows up on her door telling her the heating is broken for a few hours and he brought extra blankets. They flirt during this interaction, and Owen points out Alena's crystals. He mentions he used to see them in the french quarter, revealing he is originally from New Orleans. This prompts Alena to call her sister Ava Carrington, who currently resides in New Orleans. A little later, Owen shows up at her dorm again and asks her out, stating it's technically against the rules. (See more: Alena and Owen).
As the relationship develops, Alena realizes certain parts of her childhood aren't easy explained. This confronts her with the dilemma of sharing deeper and more personal information with the guy she is starting to develop feelings for. She wonders and consults with her mom what the indicators are for her to know if she should tell him about magic.
In February, Alena travels back to Waterfall Creek after Aylin surprises her in Portland. At Decade, where she isn't allowed until a year later when she turns 21, her cousins and friends have hosted a surprise birthday party. Alena realizes she would have liked Owen there, and she confides in her sister about the guy she met in Portland.
Alena encounters Chris Saphire while out at night in the city. After Chris mistakenly sees her for a hostile vampire, she jokes that his age is taking his eyesight with him. Chris tells her that Portland is ready for someone ele to fight what lurks in the shadows. When Chris mentions the vampires are mostly gone and it's more human crimes, Alena asks him if he finds the police force are not doing their jobs. Chris says he knows many good people, but none that can make the actual difference. That night, Alena does research about the police academy.
Season Two[]
Early in 2036, Alena tells her parents about her interest to join the police force after finishing her studies. While her mom thinks it's too difficult to keep her secret that way, her dad encourages the idea as he himself returned to the army as a vampire. After carefully listening to the advice of the people she loves, she decides to plan a future in law enforcement.

When Owen goes on a European book launch tour, Alena is forced to stay behind and they decide to end their relationship so that they both can focus on their careers.

Season Three[]
Fresh off her hook-up with Tate, Alena awakes at the club and realizes they didn't use proper protection. She enlists help from her cousin Amanda Dawson to get her a morning-after pill, which raises the question if she is genetically able to have children. On her way out of town to return to Portland, Alena asks for her medical records which show that she is indeed able to have kids in the future.
Starting her sophomore years, she attempts to not be distracted by guys and she spends most of her time in Portland with her friends. During Homecoming she stays in Waterfall Creek and she runs into Tate at the local supermarket. Their encounter is brief and awkward, but eventually she does show up at the club that evening and the two of them are seen flirting at the bar after closing.
At NYE, Alena is convinced by her friends from college to raid Decade's stock room for alcohol. Knowing the alcohol has little to no effect on herself, and not willing to risk trouble with her dad for it, Alena pretends like she can't open the lock and dissappoints her friends. They claim her hometown is lame, and they walk back home. On her way back home they walk by Owen's bookstore. When Alena sees the lights on, she tells her friends to go ahead. She enters through the back and catches Owen by surprise. She spends New Year's eve in Owen's office, reading through his latests chapter. At midnight, they share a kiss.
In flash forwards, Alena is shown to have a daughter, Lily Silverstone and a son Scott Silverstone. It is confirmed Owen is their father, but he and Alena have separated and share custody over the kids. Alena is happily married to Tate and successfull in her career.
Personality[]
As a toddler, Alena was described by her relatives as a fighter and eager to learn. She is shown to be resilient like most Silverstone women, as indicated by her own rescue from kidnappers. As a child she was very happy and cheerful.
Her ability to pick up magic and learn to control her vampirism are early indicators that she is very smart. Later her academic achievements support this trait.
Alena is socialbe and energetic but she sees herself as an introvert. She is family-oriented and responsible, a trait she enherited from both her parents according to her aunt.

Alena has blonde hair and blue eyes, the former which she got from The Greene Family. She is known for wearing little to no make-up.
Magic and Vampirism[]
Alena is both a vampire and a witch. Her bloodlines are the Silverstone Bloodline and Greene Bloodline through her twiceblessed mother. As a firstborn Silverstone witch, Alena was raised to learn the importance of her magical bloodline and it's importance within the magical community. Alena was taught magic from a young age, and was a quick learner. Alena has basic powers like all witches:
- Geokinesis: Like all witches Alena can manipulate elements derived from the earth in a basic form.
- Advances Agrokinesis: As a witch from the Greene Bloodline Alena has a stronger connection to fauna and flora.
- Portaling: Alena can, like other royals, use a portal to transfer to the Magical Dimension. Unlike other royals, the vampire genetics cause strain on her physcal pressence there, and they typically can't stay for more than a human day.
- Advanced spellcasting: Her expertise is within spells of the Silverstone bloodline, but she has knowledge of Greene spells too.
Alena's powers include:
- Tactile hallucikinesis: First manifesting as dream control, Alena can make others see visions and hallucinations.
- Healing (enherited): Alena has the power to heal others, on top of the ability to heal herself due to her vampire genetics. Theoretically she could bring back people from the death, as she is physically able to endure the strain it would put on her body. However the theory is untested and she is forbidden from trying it by her mother, who she enherited the power from.
As a vampire, Alena grew up under the protection of The Millers 2.0, lead by her father. Alena has shown sgns of her vampirism from before she was born, and has developped faster than average predictions. Her healing ability, speed and hearing fully developed before her magical powers around the age of 5.
Throughout her childhood and teenage years she was on a diet consisting of both human food and blood, which was the conclusion of several tests during her earliest years. Alena is in control of her bloodlust because it has been a part of her life since birth, and she has been trained in it.
Education and Career[]
Alena is an SJBS Alumni and volunteered at the library. After graduation Alena took two gap years, after which she enrolled in Portland University. She graduated with a literature degree.

Alena was conceived in The Silverstone House and born at The Dawson House. She was raised in the Silverstone House her whole life. Later she relocates to Portland for her studies. She has visited Divitia on several occasions.
